Mold vs Mildew
People often use 'mold' and 'mildew' interchangeably, but they describe different fungal growth.
Mildew
Mildew is typically a surface fungus — flat, gray or white, and often found on shower walls, tile, or fabrics. It generally responds to surface cleaning.
Mold
Mold is a broader category that can grow into materials, appears fuzzy or slimy, and may be green, black, gray, or other colors. It often signals deeper moisture problems.
When to call a pro
Mildew can usually be cleaned. Mold that returns, spreads, or grows on porous materials should be professionally assessed.
